Sisters

We are in love with baby Maryanne, especially Ava. I think she is convinced that she is the mommy; she runs to Maryanne everytime she cries, she always wants to hold her, and kiss her. It really is sweet to watch, but she is only two and needs a constant reminder that babies are fragile.

These are some of the friendly reminders I have to give her:

"You can't bounce on the bed while baby is on it"
"You are sqeezing her too tight"
"Don't push on her head"
"Baby doesn't want a piggy back ride"

The other day Eric went upstairs to comfort Maryanne who was crying in her bassinet. When Eric arrived he was met by Ava sternly guarding the bassinet and commanding him, "OUT OUT OUT!"

For now I have to watch the girls constantly to ensure that Maryanne survives her first year of life, but already I can tell that in time my girls will be the best of friends.

Playing with toys

Somedays I feel that I have the two kids thing down. Other days I wonder how anybody has more than one child. Surprizingly it's the days that we stay home that are the hardest. On Monday we met some friends at a local park and had lunch. I figured that I would be able to get Ava to the car after a couple of hours because she would tire of the toys.

But then she saw the water. So she played...

and played...
 and played.

Ironic that during her lifetime she's been to Hawaii and Australia yet she gets her first sunburn in Seattle. Maybe some of you moms out there have some good advise about how to drag a reluctant toddler to the car with a baby in tow, because my only solution was...drag.

Here's my idea for the reluctant toddler. Have some type of reward or activity planned for afterward that you have hyped up to her. Then give her a countdown from 15 minutes before you want to leave reminding her of the other reward/activity. Countdown at 10 and 5 and then every minute as you pack up. It always seemed to work for us. Good luck!

So cute! I totally agree - counting down until time to go prepares them for the dreaded moment. You'll be amazed how much it helps. Also, reassuring them you will come back instead of threatening that they never will is way better for them. Lastly - at their age I had a double stroller (sit & stand style) for this sole purpose. Strapping them in on the way out is MUCH easier!

Sometimes you just have to drag. Even with the countdown. Ha Ha.

Ava and Maryanne are so cute together. I can't wait to see them.
